Organizational Structure for Second Life - Cyber Society RPG

[15:39] Wili Clip: the Conference chatter will be done in LGH
We will try to be very fast (as its late) and we'll provide the transcript for everyone to read & learn ...
[15:39] Wili Clip: Do we have any volunteer that will make a transcript for 2000 GOLD?
[15:40] luigi6543210: hi all nwn
[15:40] Sophina Starchild: suuuuure
[15:41] Clarence DeLeon: grins
[15:41] Sophina Starchild: to be clear, that was me volunteering to transcribe
[15:42] Wili Clip: If you want to get most GOLD POINTS per unit of time that you can in the game now is your chance (or regret forever): O .. O Business Park (247,227,29) Click on Attendee Job
[15:43] Wili Clip: Sophina you're doign the transcription?
[15:43] Sophina Starchild: Yus
[15:43] Wili Clip: excellent!
[15:43] кαץℓα: yes
[15:43] Wili Clip: you're on the contract

[15:44] Wili Clip: Okay so we've been talking for quite some time at the upper echelons of game design on what kind of organization should we even create for Cyber Soceity Role Playing Game---

[15:45] Wili Clip: as our goal is not only to make a game system in which 1000s of people can have fun (which is our primary goal & mission) but also to create, grow and add value to the Role Playing Game itself....
[15:46] Wili Clip: Creating and adding value to the game and with that on overall to whole of Second Life... is 2ndary goal but also very important. But remember FUN 1st!
[15:47] Wili Clip: Where will the fun come from ?
[15:47] Wili Clip: FUN in SL comes from us having opportunities to create new connections and friends... have fun experiences and reach some TEAM GOALS
[15:48] Wili Clip: Cyber Society role play game is a TEAM sport O .. O  we want to learn to organize in within this game for fun and in a way that 1000s of people from all over the world will cooperate for FUN but also to create something VALUABLE to 10000s of people around the world..
[15:49] Wili Clip: So lets briefly go through 7 different organizational structures that are known and taught at universities....
[15:49] Wili Clip: ---->
[15:50] Wili Clip: The typical org chart looks like a pyramid, C-level executives at the top with lines stretching down to middle management and finally staff-level employees.  O .. o
[15:50] Wili Clip: the Eye of Sauron on TOP overseeing all the goblins... O.. o
[15:50] Wili Clip: & Orcs
[15:50] Wili Clip: hard working Orcs O.. o
[15:51] Wili Clip: ->
[15:51] Wili Clip: Many types of organizational charts exist because many types of organizational structures exist.
[15:51] Wili Clip: Each organization is like a living thing and each organization has its own dynamic.. because people creating it are different...
[15:51] Wili Clip: -> Let’s go through the seven common types of org structures

1. Hierarchical org structure

[15:52] Wili Clip: pic -> https://gyazo.com/56c692af284ab63c7ec094723aa0dafa
[15:53] Wili Clip: We see Board of Directors on the top...
[15:53] Wili Clip: Then just bellow them is CEO
[15:53] Wili Clip: and then bellow them we have all sorts of directors
[15:53] Wili Clip: from directors of higher rank to lower rank directors...
[15:54] Wili Clip: top, middle and bottom managers...
[15:54] Wili Clip: very important!
[15:54] Wili Clip: ->
[15:54] Wili Clip: The pyramid-shaped organizational chart we referred to earlier is known as a hierarchical org chart. It’s the most common type of organizational structure—the chain of command goes from the top (e.g., the CEO or manager) down (e.g., entry-level and low-level employees), and each employee has a supervisor.
[15:54] Wili Clip: A keyword to focus on: Supervisor
[15:55] Wili Clip: I've been thinking a lot about supervisors lately...
[15:55] Wili Clip: in my opinion that is the most important thing...
[15:55] Wili Clip: and the most important ingredient for our Cyber Society jobs...
[15:55] Wili Clip: we now have Tier II employees who needed to do some training to get License
[15:57] Wili Clip: We are still working with our HR Department to create notecards (JOB CARDS) with Bullet points that describe in fewest possible words what is expected from a role play employee to actually do in that job...
[15:57] Wili Clip: These same JOB CARDS will be used by our Supervisors once we create Supervision Department (or similar name) where there will be role play workers working as Supervisors...
[15:58] Wili Clip: These are going to be people who will go around and make sure that role play workers are doing their work according to the JOB CARDS....  This way we'll standardize role playing work like they standardized the flipping of burgers in McDonalds....
[15:58] Wili Clip: so again... Supervisors...
[15:58] Wili Clip: Salt in our soup we've been cooking for some time O.. O
[15:59] Dee: sounds awsome, I can hardly wait.
[15:59] Dee: !!!
[15:59] Wili Clip: ok so lets continue now with the standard hierarhical org structure.. the PROS
[15:59] Wili Clip: Pros

Better defines levels of authority and responsibility
[16:00] Wili Clip: This means... who has authority over what type of tasks and people and who is responsible that something gets done O.. O
[16:00] Wili Clip: It makes it easy for us to know who is the person to go to when things are not moving as we imagined they will (according to mission or goals that we set)....
[16:01] LGHMessenger: Syn
[16:01] Wili Clip: I've been arguing with some people for some time....
[16:01] Wili Clip: about why its important to organize things...
[16:01] Wili Clip: and its for this exact reason....
[16:02] Wili Clip: We always need to know who has authority over what and is responsible that something gets done... So that weekly we can go to that person and nudge them gently or bribe them with more GOLD or find any other way to make them have more FUN and reach the simple goals we set ^^
[16:02] Wili Clip: We've set up our DIRECTOR OF OPERATIOS O.. O
[16:02] Wili Clip: sitting on my left ->
[16:03] Wili Clip: Her job description was to travel across the different departments we'll have and talk to the directors to see what their needs are... where the bottle necks are or why something is not growing or why there is low activity and a low amount of people having FUN there O.. O
[16:04] Wili Clip: well still is the job description ^^
[16:04] Wili Clip: is also to make department directors cooperate with each other...
16:04] Wili Clip: share the love and experience ^-^
[16:04] Wili Clip: ok next from pros ->
[16:05] Wili Clip: Shows who each person reports to or who to talk to about specific projects
[16:05] Wili Clip: yes as we talked above...
[16:05] Wili Clip: this means knowing who the person is ... that we need to motivate :P
[16:05] Wili Clip: and bribe
[16:05] Wili Clip: if its a guy we send SL strippers O.. O
[16:06] ღ Gina  ღ : haha pfft :)
[16:06] Wili Clip: and if its a girl... we send some diamonds or clothes O .. O
[16:06] кαץℓα: lol
[16:06] Wili Clip: we find ways...
[16:06] Wili Clip: it a TEAM GAME - Cyber Society
[16:06] ღ Gina  ღ : nah naff us girls like avoiding things unless we get real bargains lol :)
[16:06] ღ Gina  ღ : yes  it is  hehe :)
[16:06] Wili Clip: we're in this together... and we want to reach an EPIC growth and get 1000s of people enjoy in this game
[16:07] Wili Clip: BTW we're reaching our 1st 1000!
[16:07] KamaComplex: yay
[16:07] Mia1Pixie: wtg!
[16:07] Wili Clip: They say that after 1st 1000... the next 1000 is easier and faster O .. O
[16:07] ღ Gina  ღ : 1000   woiw amazing  yayyyy :)
[16:07] Wili Clip: we'll soon break this 1000 milestone!
[16:07] Bohny Spad: excellent
[16:07] кαץℓα: woohoo!!
[16:08] Wili Clip: 913 Society Hearts out there! http://www.goldtokens.net/society
[16:08] Wili Clip: ♥
[16:08] Wili Clip: next from pros - >
[16:08] Wili Clip: Motivates employees with clear career paths and chances for promotion
[16:08] Wili Clip: Now this is going to be important
[16:08] Wili Clip: why play if you can't level up right ?
[16:09] Wili Clip: So this is why all jobs start Tier I
[16:09] Wili Clip: Tier I is like level 1 ... for everyone to be able to do it
[16:09] Wili Clip: then we have Tier II .. HR sends those who want to perform those job to here where we are now - Cyber Academy
[16:09] Wili Clip: They get licenses and access to perform those jobs
[16:10] Wili Clip: We'll also have Tier III Jobs!!!
[16:10] Wili Clip: Those are going to be even more advanced and heavily educated role play workers! Specialists already O .. O
[16:10] Wili Clip: next advantage ->
[16:10] Wili Clip: Gives each employee a specialty
[16:11] Wili Clip: what we just mentioned Tier II, Tier II and so on...
[16:11] Wili Clip: when you get your license from Tier II job you're no ordinary John anymore...
[16:11] Wili Clip: you're licensed! \O.. O/
[16:11] Wili Clip: But beware of the Supervisors
[16:12] Wili Clip: they'll be around with a task and job to supervise you using that JOB CARD making sure they can put a check on every bullet point  on that CARD!
[16:12] Brietje Habana: so we have a new person in the senate?
[16:13] Wili Clip: Now if you miss one check... they'll not directly take away your license... They'll tell on you to the Discipline board O .. O
[16:13] Wili Clip: You'll just be warned slightly (like a slap on the wrist)
[16:13] Wili Clip: NO DRAMA...
[16:13] Sophina Starchild: does the discipline board also get to issue spankings?
[16:13] Sophina Starchild: >.>
[16:13] Wili Clip: you'll be given a chance to do it right..
[16:14] Brook Demonia: would that be like a tier3?
[16:14] Wili Clip: No one is going to terrorize you...  because we're here for FUN
[16:14] Miia Catchlove: spankings are fun, so i dont think it would work for discipline
[16:14] Wili Clip: wow
[16:14] Brietje Habana: closing chat...weird talk
[16:15] Wili Clip: Congratulations Baron 5  tommyhaha for becoming a Senator in the Cyber Society!
[16:15] KamaComplex: Hi5! Tommy
[16:15] кαץℓα: congrats Tommy
[16:16] Mia1Pixie: congratz!
[16:16] Wili Clip: ok lets continue from this slight disruption from the Queen and fellow Senator Brietje \O .. O/
[16:16] Brook Demonia: wtg Tommy
[16:16] Wili Clip: Next advantage!
[16:16] tommyhaha: **HI5!**
[16:16] Wili Clip: Creates camaraderie between employees within the same department
[16:16] Wili Clip: what we just experienced!
[16:16] Wili Clip: We are all camarades! We cheer for each other
[16:17] Wili Clip: we're a TEAM
[16:17] Wili Clip: we have group goal...
[16:17] Wili Clip: a goal and goals that only massively multiplayer games can set!
[16:17] Wili Clip: Now we'll not be workign for weapons and killing Orcs O .. O
[16:18] Wili Clip: That is World Of Warcraft! We're in Second Life!
[16:18] Mia1Pixie: xD
[16:18] Wili Clip: In Second Life we have L$ and GOLD and GOLD POINTS and Royal Senate and Sexy Baronesses (top 5 people) and Lords and Sexy Ladies (top 10 %)
[16:19] Wili Clip: We don't work for Blizzard of for Linden Lab (thought we indirectly benefit LL if we grow a massively played role playing game). We work for each other!
[16:20] Wili Clip: as a TEAM!
[16:20] Wili Clip: TEAM made out of soon to be 1000 people!
[16:20] Wili Clip: Power to the Fur! \O.. O
[16:20] Wili Clip: our goal is to go over 10 000 in this year but I believe we can do even more!
[16:21] Wili Clip: Ok lets go now to the disadvantages of such a pyramidal org. structure:
[16:21] Wili Clip: Nothing on this world is perfect...
[16:21] Wili Clip: Cons
[16:21] Wili Clip: Con 1

Can slow down innovation or important changes due to increased bureaucracy
[16:22] Wili Clip: yeah we'll not have that O.. o  yuck bureaucracy!   We're agile and flexible!!!
[16:23] Wili Clip: Con 2

Can cause employees to act in interest of the department instead of the company as a whole
[16:23] Wili Clip: NEVER forget we are a TEAM! But when we have a TEAM of 1000 people we need to create smaller departments.... where people can role play and have fun reaching easy tasks and goals and missions
[16:24] Wili Clip: some light competition between departments is ok.. but never forget we're on the same TEAM!
[16:24] Wili Clip: same ORG \O .. O/
[16:25] Wili Clip: The enemies are out there! O .. O
[16:25] Wili Clip: not in here!
[16:25] Wili Clip: We'll show them what is SL made of!!!!
[16:25] Wili Clip: Those naysayers from the RL world O .. O
[16:25] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: Bureaucracy? SACRILEGE...LOL
[16:25] Wili Clip: We'll prove SL has the most advanced and cool people and also the smartest from the whole world..
[16:26] Wili Clip: and 1st cyber society who is role playing towards TEAM GREATNESS
[16:26] Wili Clip: Cyber Society = TEAM
[16:26] Wili Clip: as you become member you're ours and we're yours!
[16:27] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: Working On it Wili, just translating my 3d models from blender to DAE, then I will see if they fully transfer into SL
[16:27] Wili Clip: We organize like Vikins and get ready to plunder for treasures and women O .. O
[16:27] LGHMessenger: Fisher JulieTwilight Resident has just won a local fishpot (+100.094568)

Congratulations!
[16:27] KamaComplex: ^5
[16:27] Bohny Spad: ((grats julie))
[16:27] Wili Clip: Con 3

Can make lower-level employees feel like they have less ownership and can’t express their ideas for the company
[16:27] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: Plunder the women and pillage the fields....
[16:27] Wili Clip: We'll not have that either....
[16:27] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: aye aye cap'n
[16:28] Wili Clip: all the lower employees on Tier I jobs are on their way up!!!
[16:28] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: I just have to remember to hit those buttons. lol

[16:28] Wili Clip: everyone in Cyber Society will be respected and helped and encouraged to grow on the ladder towards the top! Everyone at their own pace and comfort.... Is a big and steep ladder http://www.goldtokens.net/society
[16:29] Wili Clip: and on the way up you'll meet friends
[16:29] Wili Clip: and lovers
[16:29] Wili Clip: and maybe even future wifes and husbands O.. O
[16:29] Wili Clip: When you cooperate with other people you learn to work together and love happens in the offices and back offices O.. o
[16:29] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: Already found a goth princess wili... she q2uickly became my favorite "exotic dancer"
[16:29] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: LOL
[16:30] Wili Clip: There was 1 department where they announced they'll have pantieless Fridays in the office O .. o
[16:30] Wili Clip: O .. O
[16:30] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: Gonna talk her into getting into LGH as it is a fun way to get linden as well as meet like minded people.
[16:30] Wili Clip: Is good to be Cyber Society office worker
[16:31] Wili Clip: we exhausted all the disadvantages...
[16:31] Wili Clip: we'll have none of those.. ^-^
[16:31] Wili Clip: Now next org structure
[16:31] Wili Clip: we can consider

 2. Functional org structure

[16:31] Wili Clip: 1st was pyramid
[16:32] Wili Clip: Similar to a hierarchical organizational structure, a functional org structure starts with positions with the highest levels of responsibility at the top and goes down from there.
[16:32] Thor Ragnarok Odinson: You always need a good chain of command with a promotion possibility.
[16:33] Wili Clip: technical problems
[16:34] Wili Clip taps on the microphone
[16:34] Wili Clip: ->
[16:35] Wili Clip: Primarily, though, employees are organized according to their specific skills and their corresponding function in the company. Each separate department is managed independently.
[16:36] Wili Clip: Lets go through the pros quickly ->
[16:36] Wili Clip: Pros

Allows employees to focus on their role

    Encourages specialization

Help teams and departments feel self-determined

Is easily scalable in any sized company
[16:37] Wili Clip: So people are positioned by their functions...
[16:37] Wili Clip: this structure is for orgs with specialist
16:37] Wili Clip: less chance for people to learn on their way up... because you already need to be a designer or marketer and so on...
[16:38] Wili Clip: the disadvantages
[16:38] Wili Clip: Cons

Can create silos within an organization

    Hampers interdepartmental communication

Obscures processes and strategies for different markets or products in a company
[16:39] Wili Clip: Basically to my untrained brain O .. O
[16:39] Wili Clip: it seems its harder to fund a guy who to blame
[16:39] Wili Clip: for things not moving! O.. O
[16:39] Wili Clip: we can't find the one to bribe him with strippers or a girl to send shopping to be more motivated /O.. O\
[16:40] Wili Clip: and now the 3rd org structure
[16:40] Wili Clip: Horizontal
[16:40] TomRedJack: I always blame Bob ... there'salmost always somebody named Bob around

3. Horizontal or flat org structure

[16:40] Wili Clip: Ah
[16:40] Wili Clip: Startups!!!
16:41] Wili Clip: because in startups everyone starts equal O.. O
[16:41] Wili Clip: A horizontal or flat organizational structure fits companies with few levels between upper management and staff-level employees
[16:41] Wili Clip: ->
[16:41] Wili Clip: Many start-up businesses use a horizontal org structure before they grow large enough to build out different departments....
[16:42] Wili Clip: This is basically how Cyber Society is starting... the few departments we have... the directors are kind of helping setting up the new departments where we don't have directors yet...
16:42] Wili Clip: We'll be training department directors at Cyber Academy too O.. O... But before you can become a Department Director you 1st need to proves yourself in other jobs..
[16:43] Wili Clip: and best way to get to director position is to become a Teacher of something 1st O .. O
[16:43] Wili Clip: You'll learn to organize lessons and have some people in front of you.... not a long jump from soon learning to tell those people what to do O.. O
[16:43] Wili Clip: go left O .. O
[16:44] Wili Clip: 3 steps right.. O. O
[16:44] Wili Clip: down the stairs O .. O bye bye
[16:44] Wili Clip: the horizontal ->
[16:44] Wili Clip: Some organizations maintain this structure since it encourages less supervision and more involvement from all employees.
[16:45] Wili Clip: this is basically how Cyber Academy is started...
[16:45] Wili Clip: all the teachers have somewhat equal powers
[16:45] Wili Clip: and we decided that one of the teacher is selected to be Academy Director for 1 month
[16:45] Wili Clip: with HR we agreed that will be for 4 months
[16:46] Wili Clip: then they'll select the one who has the most time and is best at maintaining a schedule of teachers and classes... and also keeping teachers motivated...
[16:46] Wili Clip: to stay Academy Director for longer time
16:47] Wili Clip: Pros of horizontal org structure or the one STARTUPS take:
[16:47] Wili Clip: Pros

    Gives employees more responsibility

    Fosters more open communication

Improves coordination and speed of implementing new ideas
[16:47] Wili Clip: yesh
[16:47] Wili Clip: This is the stage we are at now currently with Cyber Society O .. O
[16:48] Wili Clip: We look for PLAYERS who are BRAVE \O .. O/
[16:48] Wili Clip: to take on some responsibility for fun!
[16:48] Wili Clip: What is the worse that can happen?
[16:48] Wili Clip: You get fired from a Role Playing Game?!! O.. O
[16:48] Sophina Starchild: hmm
[16:48] Sophina Starchild: not a bad point
[16:49] Wili Clip: the Cons O.. O
[16:49] Wili Clip: ->
[16:49] Wili Clip: Cons

Can create confusion since employees do not have a clear supervisor to report to

Can produce employees with more generalized skills and knowledge

Can be difficult to maintain once the company grows beyond start-up status
[16:49] Wili Clip: Totally the stage we were at when there were no Tier II jobs yet ^^
[16:50] Wili Clip: Takes time to cook a good soup! And ingredients are added through time ^^ its a process!
[16:50] Wili Clip: this is what we don't want in the Cyber Soceity...
[16:50] Wili Clip: too many generalist...
[16:51] Wili Clip: we want players to pick their department and become good at what they do..
[16:55] Wili Clip: That is nice.. we might use some of that magic!
[16:55] Wili Clip: We're setting up Cyber Estates Agency...
[16:56] Wili Clip: there will be trained real estates agents who will help landowners rent out their lands... These agents will receive commission in L$ and some commission will also go to the Estate Agency....  for hooking up the needy landowners and agents who are skilled in selling / renting land.
[16:56] Wili Clip: Now Cyber Estates Agency can work like a division inside the Cyber Society..
[16:57] Wili Clip: making their own L$ and have a BUDGET O.. O
[16:58] Wili Clip: now the L$ profits from that Agency (what they don't spend for booze and hookers) will then go to Cyber Soceity Treasury and from treasury to the weekly REWARD POT that is split among everyone who in ranked by GOLD POINTS. So those who worked the most and hardest get largest share of the L$ reward.
[16:58] Sophina Starchild: https://www.flickr.com/photos/196224423@N06/52389766485/in/dateposted-public/  decent crowd today, wili
[16:59] Wili Clip: Its important what position you take on this chart: http://www.goldtokens.net/society
[16:59] Wili Clip: gold points you earn rank you up... and the higher rank you are the better share of the L$ spoils  you'll get \O .. O/
[17:00] Wili Clip: Ty sophina very nice pic!
[17:00] Wili Clip: So divisions
[17:00] Wili Clip: some of departments in Cyber Society will function as their own divisions
[17:00] Wili Clip: -> Each division can have its own marketing team, sales team, IT team, etc.
[17:01] Wili Clip: Cyber Estates Agency will have sexy real estates agents that will sell a dream to the needy homeless people in SL to get their 1st home!!!!
[17:01] Wili Clip: or a FARM LAND! O.. O
[17:02] Wili Clip: Whatever a customer will imagine the real estates agents will know a landowner that can provide them the best of the best!
[17:02] Wili Clip: But this is just 1 of many Departments that Cyber Society will be opening up for people to be able to role play in...
[17:03] Wili Clip: Some departments that we'll see are not very popular we will also close....
[17:03] Wili Clip: We'll keep the ones that are most interesting to our players and expand on them ^^ work on them and keep perfecting them O .. O
[17:03] Wili Clip: --->
[17:03] Wili Clip: This structure works well for large companies as it empowers the various divisions to make decisions without everyone having to report to just a few executives.
[17:04] LGHMessenger: CloeConcy has just spotted a very rare MEGA FISH: Bowhead Whale info: https://goo.gl/BXKKlE (L$2)
[17:04] Sophina Starchild: wtg
[17:04] Wili Clip: Depending on organization’s focus, there are a few variations to consider.
Market-based divisional org structure
[17:04] LGHMessenger: Fisher Bernardoo Bernard has just won a local fishpot (+130.71371312)

Congratulations!
[17:05] Wili Clip: Hmm
[17:05] Wili Clip: congrats Bernandoo
[17:05] Wili Clip: ->
[17:05] Wili Clip: Divisions are separated by market, industry, or customer type. A large consumer goods company, like Target or Walmart, might separate its durable goods (clothing, electronics, furniture, etc.) from its food or logistics divisions.
[17:05] Bohny Spad: ((grats cloe and bernardoo))
[17:05] Wili Clip: Drugs division O .. O
[17:05] Wili Clip: ->
[17:05] Wili Clip: Product-based divisional org structure
[17:07] Wili Clip: Divisions are separated by product line. For example, a tech company might have a division dedicated to its cloud offerings, while the rest of the divisions focus on the different software offerings—e.g., Adobe and its creative suite of Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
[17:07] Wili Clip: Games divisions O .. O
[17:08] Wili Clip: Geographic divisional org structure
[17:08] Wili Clip: Divisions are separated by region, territories, or districts, offering more effective localization and logistics. Companies might establish satellite offices across the country or the globe in order to stay close to their customers.
[17:08] Wili Clip: okay
[17:08] Wili Clip: pros of divisional structures
[17:08] Wili Clip: Pros

    Helps large companies stay flexible

Allows for a quicker response to industry changes or customer needs

Promotes independence, autonomy, and a customized approach
[17:09] Wili Clip: andcons
[17:09] Wili Clip: Cons

Can easily lead to duplicate resources

Can mean muddled or insufficient communication between the headquarters and its divisions

Can result in a company competing with itself
[17:10] Wili Clip: yes organization competing with itself and if the workers use low kicks or become wasteful of full of negative energy.. is bad for organization...
[17:11] Wili Clip: Cyber Society = 1 TEAM (1000s of people working together for same goals and missions)
[17:11] Wili Clip: NO KILLING!
[17:11] Wili Clip: We're now going to move to a more exotic org structures...
[17:11] Wili Clip: --->

5. Matrix org structure

[17:12] Wili Clip: A matrix organizational chart looks like a grid, and it shows cross-functional teams that form for special projects.
[17:12] Wili Clip: This is what we used for Snuffles...
[17:12] Wili Clip: We set up special  Committee for deciding the rarity of specific Snuffles Skins...
[17:13] Wili Clip: worked well!
[17:13] Wili Clip: ->
[17:13] Wili Clip: For example, an engineer may regularly belong to the engineering department (led by an engineering director) but work on a temporary project (led by a project manager). The matrix org chart accounts for both of these roles and reporting relationships.
[17:13] Wili Clip: Cyber Society will also borrow something from MATRIX structure...
[17:14] Wili Clip: New divisions and departments will be able to borrow the talented people or the more educated and LEVELED UP ones... to help them get going...
[17:14] Wili Clip: Because
[17:14] Wili Clip: WE are all 1 TEAM \O .. O/
[17:15] Wili Clip: And success of 1 division is success of the whole Cyber society !
[17:15] Wili Clip: the L$ rewards will always go to people who earned the most GOLD POINTS with their role playing
[17:15] Wili Clip: They already do ^-^
[17:16] Wili Clip: works BEAUTIFUL and is a foundation that we're not able to build on..
[17:16] Wili Clip: We're now going to go extra fast from here....
[17:16] Wili Clip: There is much more material to cover than I expected..
[17:16] Wili Clip: ->
[17:16] Wili Clip: Pros

Allows supervisors to easily choose individuals by the needs of a project

Gives a more dynamic view of the organization

Encourages employees to use their skills in various capacities aside from their original roles
[17:17] Wili Clip: very flexible very agile...
[17:17] Wili Clip: ...
[17:17] Wili Clip: Cons

Presents a conflict between department managers and project managers

Can change more frequently than other organizational chart types
[17:17] Wili Clip: can lead to DRAMA and KILLING O .. O
[17:18] Wili Clip: But NO KILLING in Cyber Soceity \O ..o/
[17:18] Wili Clip: when we go over 1000s of people
[17:18] Wili Clip: or maybe even if some day we reach 100k
[17:19] Wili Clip: This will need to be enforced... no killing (no drama, no negativity, no toxic people)
[17:19] Wili Clip: The GAME is built for everyone to have fun 1st and create and add value & grow SL 2nd
[17:19] Wili Clip: But FUN 1st!
[17:19] Wili Clip: next

6. Team-based org structure

[17:20] Wili Clip: It’ll come as no surprise that a team-based organizational structure groups employees according to (what else?) teams—think Scrum teams or tiger teams.
[17:20] Wili Clip: O .. O
[17:20] Wili Clip: TEAM! \O .. O/
17:20] Wili Clip: A team organizational structure is meant to disrupt the traditional hierarchy, focusing more on problem-solving, cooperation, and giving employees more control.
[17:21] Wili Clip: We'll take something from that too... Our directors will work as a team... they'll have meetings and lectures that will be only for directors
[17:21] Wili Clip: and will be taught how to better motivate and lead people towards their TEAM greatness
[17:22] Wili Clip: How to promote and motivate people and influence are some core skills that our directors and leaders of departments and divisions will learn to nurture \O .. O/
[17:23] Wili Clip: How to be crazy, different and a pink elephant among elephants
[17:23] Ɓℓεᴜ ṧεrεnity: omg are you still goin on lol closes chat again
[17:23] Wili Clip: not a material for a division director O.. O
[17:24] Wili Clip: pros of teams structure!
[17:24] Wili Clip: Pros

Increases productivity, performance, and transparency by breaking down silo mentality
    Promotes a growth mindset
Changes the traditional career models by getting people to move laterally
    Values experience rather than seniority
    Requires minimal management
Fits well with agile companies with Scrum or tiger teams
[17:24] Wili Clip: \O .. O/ looks nice on paper
[17:24] Wili Clip: ->
[17:24] Wili Clip: Cons

Goes against many companies’ natural inclination of a purely hierarchical structure
Might make promotional paths less clear for employees
[17:25] Wili Clip: We'll need more hierarchical structure.... as we're starting from 0 and this game is created to help people to have fun and at the same time have an opportunity to build themselves up!

[17:28] Wili Clip: last
[17:28] Wili Clip: phew!

7. Network org structure

[17:28] Wili Clip: These days, few businesses have all their services under one roof, and juggling the multitudes of vendors, subcontractors, freelancers, offsite locations, and satellite offices can get confusing.
[17:29] Wili Clip: Something we'll be able take from this one as well
[17:29] Wili Clip: ->
[17:29] Wili Clip: A network organizational structure makes sense of the spread of resources. It can also describe an internal structure that focuses more on open communication and relationships rather than hierarchy.
[17:29] Wili Clip: ->
[17:29] Wili Clip: Pros

Visualizes the complex web of onsite and offsite relationships in companies
Allows companies to be more flexible and agile
Give more power to all employees to collaborate, take initiative, and make decisions
Helps employees and stakeholders understand workflows and processes
[17:29] 星光吹雪 Seikō Fubuki 星光吹雪: hey will is it possible to get the next level of fisihing rod for myself on credit?  i know we could do that for one of the rods but not sure if we can for others
[17:30] Wili Clip: you can upgrade to extended version of the same rod yes
[17:30] Wili Clip: ->
[17:30] Wili Clip: Cons

Can quickly become overly complex when dealing with lots of offsite processes
Can make it more difficult for employees to know who has final say
[17:31] Wili Clip: So to finalize
[17:31] 星光吹雪 Seikō Fubuki 星光吹雪: im already on the extended
[17:31] 星光吹雪 Seikō Fubuki 星光吹雪: i was wanting to see if i could get the next rod after pro extended on credit if it was possible or if i had to buy it outright
[17:32] Wili Clip: you can get a better rod on credit but you have to pay 30%  of its price
[17:32] Wili Clip: next for you is then Deluxe
[17:32] Wili Clip: ->
[17:32] Wili Clip: Organizational structure is very important as different structure also fosters different culture
[17:33] Wili Clip: and different relations between people (in our case) role playing in it
[17:33] 星光吹雪 Seikō Fubuki 星光吹雪: hmmm well ill have to go see how much the deluxe is then
[17:34] Wili Clip: We'll take something useful for us in unique and new environment that SL is ... and create an organizational structure that will fit the needs of a virtual world ^^
[17:34] Wili Clip: something useful from all these org structures we've been learning about today..
[17:35] Wili Clip: Second Life is an unique environment....
[17:35] Wili Clip: We have people logging in from different time zones....
[17:35] Wili Clip: All over the world...
[17:35] Wili Clip: to spend their free time here ...
[17:36] Wili Clip: We're creating a role play game framework that is making simulations from the real life organizations...
[17:37] Wili Clip: Sometimes it will seem that we're leaning towards creating a simulation of a government.... other times a simulation of an international corporation with many divisions...  Its all for fun and in a light role playing sense... But we're here real people with skills form real life and from different educational backgrounds....
[17:37] Wili Clip: If we play we play HARD \O .. O/
17:37] Wili Clip: To achieve something as a TEAM (Cyber Community made of members from all over the world and from different nationalities)
[17:39] Wili Clip: opening a short Q & E and also an opportunity for you to share your opinion... what is in your opinion best org structure for Cyber Society and if you have any idea about a division or department within it that you'd like to create and run ^^
[17:39] Wili Clip: the mic is in your hand!
[17:40] Wili Clip hits the podium with his hand to make a loud noise that wakes everyone up!
[17:40] Sophina Starchild: uh
[17:40] Sophina Starchild: my brain goes "blerp"
[17:40] Sophina Starchild: but uh
[17:40] Sophina Starchild: entertainment division
[17:40] - ̗̀ ღ Aɗεηα Sτενεη ღ  ̖́-: 2 hours later
[17:40] Alala Jewell: All of the material is very interesting for sure would like the transcript so I can read and refer to it.
[17:40] кαץℓα: ohhhhh lala!!
[17:40] Brooklyn Diplomat: Error 404
[17:40] Wili Clip: Best answer I suggest is... take a best bit from every org structure and create a new hybrid that can work work for unique environment that SL is O. O
[17:41] LGHMessenger: Syn
[17:41] Sophina Starchild: I mean... sounds about right
[17:41] Wili Clip: Next conference we'll have will be on topic of Management! O .. O
[17:41] Bohny Spad: nice
[17:42] Wili Clip: And we'll be looking for managers.... or anyone who we can mold into a manager!  O .. O
[17:42] - ̗̀ ღ Aɗεηα Sτενεη ღ  ̖́-: Will these roles be paid in L or gold only?
[17:42] Miia Catchlove: the gp i think
[17:43] Alala Jewell: You mentioned diversity of nationalities.  Do you currently offer the conferences in other languages or is everyone just expected to use the translator?
[17:43] Wili Clip: As we need to get all the new departments in Cyber Society going... each department will be an opportunity for people to play and role play in it \O .. O/
[17:43] Wili Clip: the jobs pay in GOLD POINTS and it ranks you on the chart... and according to your ranks you get L$ weekly so yes you're paid...
[17:44] Wili Clip: And if you work in division like for example Cyber Estate Agency and you rent land for other landowners you get commission in L$...
17:45] кαץℓα: awesome!
